So a lot has been happening at Isme People during the summer months, and although the blog posts have probably suffered we have been doing lots of work in the background as we carve out our niche market.
Since the launch of Isme People in 2017, we have supported many clients across a broad industry sector and job type. It was always our intention as time went on to niche into a sector where we could truly become the go-to expert for our clients in that space. The marketing and ecommerce sectors are areas I love to recruit into, I have always been fascinated by consumer psychology, analysing trends, creative content and the growing ecommerce market as the digital world explodes.
My interest in marketing started in education and I choose to study it at university back in 1999, it’s fair to say things have moved on dramatically since then. I think the big news back then were loyalty cards and the picture we could build up of customer buying habits by them using these. The other big thing being talked about was how GPRS would be used to target customers as they passed by a certain store, I think the example used was that if the temperature went above a certain number of degrees and you walked past a shop selling drinks, they would be able to send a text message telling you about a BOGOF deal on drinks. I remember this sort of technology being discussed again many years later whilst I worked closely with my client at the time EE and how SIM technology would be used to analyse buying habits and predict stock levels required or offers that were relevant to consumers.
I know some people find the amount of data held on them alarming and GDPR went part of the way to try and address some of this, however I love the idea of being told about products/services that are relevant to me rather than the old days of being sent info about things that were totally irrelevant to me.
Anyway, the niche for my business was pretty much always staring me in the face but as a new business I resisted doing it, thinking I didn’t want to turn things down. It was a silly mistake to make really, as we cannot be an expert in all fields. The phrase ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’ springs to mind.
So, I am excited that we now have a clear focus and there are lots of plans for the future around how we partner with others to offer our clients more. As a heart centred business, I am also exploring how we can give back more to the communities around us, how we can look after the environment we live in and have a strong sense of purpose. I am proud of the job I do and the thousands of clients and candidates I have helped throughout my career spanning 3 decades, I understand there are many in my industry that don’t lead with their heart and just chase the next deal and at times I’ve almost felt embarrassed to say what I do because of this. Therefore, I am focused now on creating a business that truly has people at the centre of all that it does, working with companies that truly value the people that work for them and finding them talent with the same values.
Here’s to the next chapter for Isme People and the fabulous team I have with me on this journey.
